Business Improvement District Programme

Did you know The Fringe District is part of Auckland Council’s Business Improvement District Programme, or BID Programme.

A BID programme is a local economic development initiative run by a business association in partnership with Auckland Council, and is defined by the BID Policy.

A BID is a specified commercial area – town centre, industrial area, or a combination – designated for a targeted rate, with boundaries agreed by the local board and business association. The Fringe District BID represent three suburbs; Kingsland, Eden Park, and Morningside. See our BID Map here.

The Fringe District BID is a vibrant commercial hub, home to passionate small, independent, and owner-operated businesses. It also hosts Eden Park, our national stadium, which showcases sport, music, arts, culture, and community events, all within an active and inclusive local community.

The Fringe District sits on Auckland City’s fringe, and transport lines, this mixed residential & commercial landscape has excellent accessibility and connectivity to all modes of transport.

How do BIDS work?
Auckland Council provides targeted rate funds to the business association for activities that promote economic growth in our area, with accountability requirements set through their BID Policy.

Did you know?
Auckland has 54 BIDs representing more than 25,000 businesses, with a combined capital value estimated at $7.2 billion. That’s awesome!

Business associations partner with the local boards to operate BID programmes in their communities. Our Local Board is the Albert-Eden.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited is the local and regional economic development resource to whom local boards and BIDs turn to for advice.
